Founder & Program Director

I am Leomise McClendon, founder and director of Butterfly Effect Girls Mentoring Inc.

Butterfly Effect is inspired by my own life story. Throughout my adolescent life, I didn’t have a voice. The only time I felt truly seen was when I was performing on stage in school. After losing my grandmother at a very early age, who was my comfort and protector, I just felt as though I was prey to everyone around me. I experienced childhood trauma, and I hid behind my smile and playful nature. I became a teenage mom at the age of 16. I didn’t really have anyone to look up to besides my peers, and we were all in the same position. Despite all of these things, I graduated from high school on time, became a certified professional coder, obtained my bachelor’s degree in health service administration, and obtained my master’s degree in human service counseling.

I wanted to give back to my community and the lives of young people the love and support that I had been seeking. It started with friends of my children, and then I began volunteering at a youth shelter. So here we are, 7 years later, transforming a life, one girl at a time.
